Send, Receive, Shield. What is the difference?

The Incognito Wallet App contains three types of coins

  • PRV, our native coin
  • user-issued coins
  • pToken, the private version of coins of other chains

Coins on Incognito Chain

PRV and user-issued coins, only exist on the Incognito chain. The type of transfers you can perform with these coins, moving them from one account to another, is limited to “Send/Receive” in Network.

pTokens

These coins come in two flavors:

  • the “real” coin, on their own chain
  • the private coin, on the Incognito chain

For example, BTC and pBTC
The type of transfers you can perform with these coins, moving them from one account to another, is not limited to “Send/Receive”, In Network (Shielded) but also Out Network (Unshielded).

Send

The “Send” function is used when transferring coins from one Incognito account to anther Incognito account as well as for transferring coins to an external wallet.

How it works

The Send function is accessible from the Home page.
Use Send when you want to transfer coins from your Incognito wallet to another (Incognito or external) wallet.

Receive

The Receive function is accessible from the Home page.
Use Receive when you want to transfer coins from another (Incognito or external) wallet to your Incognito wallet.

  • tap Receive
Option Description
In Network Select this option when you are receiving coins from another Incognito wallet
Out Network Select this option when you are receiving coins from an external wallet

In Network

The tab shows your Incognito wallet address as text and as QR-code. Supply either one to the sender.

Out Network

In this case, the app needs to know what coins you are going to receive before it can show you a valid address.

  • Select the coin
  • Enter the amount
  • Tap “Shield x coin”

The app will generate a valid wallet address that matches your coin. This address will be available to you for 60 minutes, and can only be used once. Supply the sender with that address.

Shield

Shield is a short cut for receiving Out Network coins. Your coins are shielded, anonymous, once they are on the Incognito chain, in your wallet.

Public versus Anonymous

Your “In Network” transactions are anonymous, shielded.
Your “Out Network” transactions are public on the external chain. None of the transactions link to your Incognito Account directly due to using temporary one-time use addresses instead.

With the new concept ‘Shielding’ in the new version of the app, I bet folks won’t get confused among Send, Receive, Deposit, Withdraw anymore
